"When Sara and I were kids we never talked about playing music. We didn’t start playing music in a band until we were 15 or 16 years old and every day that I do interviews without fail, someone asks if we dreamt of being Tegan and Sara. But it’s usually phrased something like “So did you guys always dream of being famous?“ and I find a non-pretentious answer to that question, usually I’ll say something like “Famous doesn’t mean rich, I was more interested in rich than famous,” just hoping they’d catch the sarcasm in my voice. When I answer the question more truthfully I say that Sara and I didn’t know what we wanted to be but what we really liked turning ice cream into soup and pretending we were on a cooking channel."
